Tail Comb An essential tool for colourists, this is a comb with a long metal or plastic point at the end. The point is used for sectioning hair for highlights etc.

Texture This term is used to describe the type of hair- thick, coarse, fine, etc. It is also used to describe layering and the creation of volume in a haircut.

Thinning Scissors A type of hairdressing scissor that are used to remove bulk and weight from the hair and soften lines. The blades are notched so that when closed only a few hairs are actually cut.
Tint A term used for permanent colour.
Tone Every colour is classified as having either a warm or cool tone. Colourists can warm a colour up or neutralise unwanted tone by using the opposing colour on the colour wheel eg. Violet is used to tone yellow.
Toner A type of colour product used to refine the tone of (usually) blonde or pre-lightened areas of hair. It can be used to neutralise unwanted reflects (i.e. yellow or brassiness) or to enhance colour.
Tongs A heated styling tool that can help you achieve body, curls and ringlets.
Tourmaline is a mineral that has become the new- must have in hair drying and straightening technology. The tourmaline emits negative ions, which help to seal the hair cuticle and create a smooth, shiny look with less heat and fewer styling products needed.
Transparency When hair is transparent, the colour has not taken properly, and this normally means you can still see white hair shining through.
